Himalayan Lungwort is a clump-forming, branching,
evergreen perennial herb with lance-shaped, hairy, mid-green leaves and
one-sided cymes of tubular, two-lipped, deep blue or purple flowers.
Flowers are deep blue to purple, very variable in size, up to 1.5 cm
across, with spreading rounded petals, borne in dense or lax elongated
clusters. Sepals are oblong-elliptic, shorter than the flower-tube,
hairy particularly on margins. Basal leaves are lanceshaped
long-stalked, upper leaves stalkless clasping stem, 4-8 cm; stems
solitary, or several, 15-60 cm. Nutlets with stout hooked bristles.
Himalayan Lungwort is native to the Himalaya, from Pakistan to W.
Nepal, at altitudes of 3000-3600 m, common in Kashmir. Flowering:
June-August.
